First Iteration Retrospective:

  • Assemble the whole team and agree on Norm Kerth's Prime Directive of Retrospectives: Regardless of what we discover, we understand and truly believe that everyone did the best job they could, given what they knew at the time, their skills and abilities, the resources available, and the situation at hand.
  • Create a poster and write on it in very big letters: "Worked Well"/"Needs Improvement" columns
  • Ask the team to suggest things that worked well/need improvement and write these items in the respective columns on the poster.
  • Now discuss each item, particularly how the team might address the items in the "Needs Improvement" column.

Future Iteration Retrospectives:

  • Revisit previous iteration data before you obtain new items for your poster.
